Dante Dowdell Injury Threatens Bulldogs Backfield | Georgia Bulldogs Football News

Georgia Bulldogs running back Dante Dowdell’s 2026 season—and possibly his future in football—is in serious jeopardy after a critical offseason car accident. Head coach Kirby Smart called the situation “tough,” confirmed Dowdell has been seen by doctors at two hospitals, and said no return timeline is available. Once a breakout spring performer with flashes of elite talent, Dowell’s injury adds to a troubling pattern of backfield injuries that have plagued the Bulldogs, forcing them to rely on a thin depth chart led by Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens. With the season opener against Tennessee State just weeks away, the team’s rushing attack—and playoff hopes—hang in the balance.
