Dark Science Electro - Episode 700 - 2/10/2023

from DVS NME · host DVS NME

This episode marks the SEVEN HUNDREDTH episode of 'DVS NME presents Dark Science Electro' weekly podcast. 🤯 I started the show 13 years ago broadcasting on Illegal Connection Radio at the age of 26 after being inspired by the online radio station Global Funk Radio and a few other DJs around the internet like Chris Spotta, Mad Wax, Lloyd Da Zoid, Diplomat, and a few others. I had previously been an active gigging DJ in my early twenties but had been out of it for a few years and didn't realize (up until that point) that the online radio world was so vibrant and active. When I first started to rediscover Electro (during the Electroclash surge in the early 2000s) I was a bit disappointed by the lack of resources for people looking to explore the artists of Electro with DJ mixes. There were a few mixes here and there but a majority didn't include playlists which made it difficult to really help me in my exploration in any meaningful way so I turned to live-streaming podcasts/chatrooms. My re-born obsession with Electro music had to be sourced in a more labor-intensive way, by listening to online radio, building online friendships with other fans, tirelessly digging as well as being on forums like Electro Empire to gain insight on labels and artists. It was a lot of effort and I thought to myself that it didn't need to be this hard to immerse oneself in this wonderful genre of music. So Dark Science Electro was born! I wanted to create a vast library of Electro mixes (including playlists) that would be easily accessible to casual listeners of Electro music, especially during a fans beginning stages. Not everyone has the time, nor gusto, to dig for music like the DJs do, and understandably so. With that in mind, I made it my goal to remove as many barriers for listeners to become fans and support the artists that make up Electro and the adjacent genres. My show, of course, focused on the darker, weirder, colder side of the genre as there were plenty of other shows out there already doing a great job representing Electrofunk, Miami Bass, Electrobass, etc. That, naturally, is where the name 'Dark Science Electro' came from. It has been a serious labor of love to publish a weekly show for the last 13 years. In that time I've been on multiple different stations and had the pleasure of hosting hundreds of guests as well. I consider this show to be one of the great accomplishments of my life and I'm glad I have kept it going as long as I have. It has allowed me to build a ton of amazing relationships, be praised by my idols, give me purpose on social media, and continue my love affair with this inspiring genre of music. I have never put a hard-stop date on the show and always told myself, as long as there wasn't anyone else doing what I was doing, I would continue. As it turns out, publishing playlists and being a megaphone for the artists that make the genre isn't as popular as I hoped it would be all these years later. That having been said, I will keep doing what I'm doing so long as it is appreciated by listeners around the world. Thanks to everyone who has shown support for my outlet in the last 13 years and to those who will do so in the future. My Soundcloud page hit 4 million plays last month and that has everything to do with you!
