Dark Wave mix - Scott Wood ep 135

This is a dark wave or cold wave mix - inspired by post-punk and early 80s electronic music, mostly European. If you know the Dark Entries label you'll know exactly what you're getting into.It opens gently with Pye Corner Audio & Faten Kanaan and Ghost Culture before getting into the meat of it. The Chromatics' Stroke of Midnight Remix is a good bridge - they're one of the more accessible acts in this world.The centrepiece is DAF's Der Mussolini, remixed here by Giorgio Moroder and Denis Naidanow. The original from 1981 is a landmark record - German industrial disco. This version holds up. Section 25's Looking from a Hilltop and Cabaret Voltaire's Yashar are from the same era and in the same territory - Factory and Rough Trade regulars.Boy Harsher are the most contemporary act on the mix and one of the best working in this style right now. Depeche Mode's Bergsonist remix shows there's still mileage in their catalogue when the right people get hold of it.Bauhaus close it out - which is fitting. They more or less invented this sound.1.
