As you heard and as we've been talking about on the program today, Darlene Graham Nordone—and from what we hear, she's dropped the Nordone—is probably—now I've heard several stories about this, somebody sent me a text today saying that they got a text that said that she was indeed running for the six-year term for her brother's seat, Lindsey Graham. Um, this is from Politico. "Newly minted Senator Darlene Graham is considering running for her late brother's old seat in the South Carolina special election, according to one person granted anonymity to discuss a private conversation. Graham was sworn in earlier this week to replace Senator Lindsey Graham, who died on Saturday. Her appointment, backed by Governor Henry McMaster, was widely seen as a move to fill the seat with a caretaker who would leave Washington at the end of the term in January." That is what we all heard. That's—that was the story. We just got a caretaker, an interim Senator. When that was over, she's going back home. So now we are hearing that she might be doing this. Um, Graham's interest in running for the seat was first reported by Semafor. The filing window for candidates is August the 11th—uh, I'm sorry, that's coming up on Tuesday for the 11th primary. Now, here's what I—here's what I don't get, I don't get. So President Trump also today endorsed her for this seat. Now, what we have been hearing this whole time, all we heard was that Donald Trump is going for Russell Fry over in the 7th. He was going to endorse Russell Fry over in the 7th for this seat. And then everybody was like, "Well, wait a minute, hold on, if he runs..." and all kind of legal wranglings going on there. But today, President Trump posted, "It was my honor to welcome now Senator Darlene Graham Nordone, sister of the late great Lindsey Graham, from the wonderful state of South Carolina into the Oval Office," Trump posted on Truth Social. "We have known each other a long time. She is a spectacular person and a true American patriot. Lindsey was one of the greatest people and senators I've ever known, and his sister shares his deep love for our country and the state of South Carolina. During her visit, I asked Darlene for the good of our nation to run for the U.S. Senate in the special Republican primary on Tuesday, August 11th. I hope Darlene does this. And that there would be nobody better to honor the legacy of her beloved brother Lindsey. Darlene, um, who comes from an absolutely incredible family, has been a winner all of her life, and should she accept, has my complete and total endorsement in the special election for U.S. Senate in South Carolina. She will never let you down. Run, Darlene, run." That's what President Trump said today. Governor McMaster appointed, um—I guess now she's dropped the Nordone—um, Darlene Graham to finish Senator Graham's seat after he died unexpectedly this past weekend. Um, "It was my honor to welcome now Senator Darlene Graham Nordone, sister of late great Lindsey Graham, from the wonderful state of South Carolina into the Oval Office," Trump posted on Truth Social. "We have known each other a long time. She is a spectacular person and a true American patriot." is what he is now saying. So, looks like everybody else can bow out. Y'all—y'all—hey, save that filing fee! (Laughs) I don't know, it's like 15—isn't it like $1,500? Or something like that, it's some—yeah, I don't know, I'm gonna have to find out. But that's just you just throwing money away now. Um, how—I want to see: how much is the filing fee, um, let's see. Fee for—for Senate, let's see, Senate in South Carolina. Um, here we go, filing fee... oh my goodness! Oh, it's—(laughs)—it's a lot more than I thought it was! Um, let's see, oh let's see, da-da-da-da-da.
