Darryl Strawberry Discusses Another Life & Philip Thompson on Kauffman Stadium's Kitchen

from Baseball and BBQ · host Len & Jeff

Darryl Strawberry was an eight-time All-Star and four-time World Series champion whose career included standout years with the New York Mets and New York Yankees. Today, he is a minister, motivational speaker, author, and advocate for restoration and recovery through faith.  He discusses his new book, Another Life:  Discovering the Healing Power of Purpose on My Long Journey from Player to Preacher.  The conversation explores his remarkable journey from baseball superstardom to personal struggles, redemption, faith, and a life devoted to ministry and helping others.  Darryl shares how purpose, healing, and spiritual growth transformed his life and why he believes it's never too late for anyone to start over. The book chronicles his experiences traveling the country, speaking in churches, schools, prisons, and hospitals, and helping people find hope and restoration. Philip Thompson is the Executive Chef at Kauffman Stadium.  His culinary journey has taken him from Southern England to becoming one of the most respected chefs in Kansas City's renowned barbecue scene. As the Executive Chef at Kauffman Stadium and former pitmaster at Q39, Thompson shares his passion for barbecue, hospitality, and elevating the ballpark dining experience for baseball fans.  Prior to leading the culinary team at the stadium, he was a renowned pitmaster and formerly worked at Q39.  He has over 25 years of classically trained culinary experience and was awarded the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association Chef of the Year in 2023.  He is a Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) Certified BBQ Judge.  Chef Thompson and his culinary team are focused on creating upscale ballpark food that incorporates a unique "Kansas City spin."
