David Bass: Growing in the Prophetic

Naturally Supernatural | Growing in the Prophetic What does the Bible really teach about prophecy? Is it only for a few people, or is it a gift that every follower of Jesus can grow in? In this message, we explore the New Testament gift of prophecy and discover how God speaks to strengthen, encourage, and comfort His people through the power of the Holy Spirit. Looking at Paul's teaching in 1 Corinthians 14, we learn that the prophetic is not about elevating individuals or making extraordinary predictions. Instead, it is about partnering with the Holy Spirit to build up the Church, reveal God's heart, and point people to Jesus. We also explore the importance of weighing prophetic words with humility, wisdom, and the truth of Scripture. In this message we reflect on: • What the gift of prophecy is—and what it isn't • Why every believer is encouraged to eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially prophecy • How prophetic words are given to strengthen, encourage, and comfort others • Why prophetic impressions should always be tested, weighed, and submitted to Scripture • The role of humility, love, and discernment in exercising spiritual gifts • Practical ways we can grow in listening to and responding to the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit continues to work in and through God's people today, drawing us closer to Jesus and building up His Church. As we grow in spiritual maturity, we are invited to hold together both bold faith and humble dependence—learning to recognise God's voice, encouraging one another in love, and allowing every spiritual gift to serve the mission of Christ and the unity of His people. 📖 Key Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 14:1–33 | 1 Thessalonians 5:19–22 | Numbers 12:6–8 | Amos 8:1–2 | 1 Corinthians 13:9–12 ✨ Key Themes: Holy Spirit | Prophecy | Spiritual Gifts | Discernment | Encouragement | Hearing God's Voice | Building the Church Whether you're exploring the work of the Holy Spirit for the first time, seeking to grow in spiritual gifts, or simply wanting to know Jesus more deeply, we pray this message encourages you.
