He called Sherry Byrne and asked her to meet him and his wife at a hotel, where he raped and beat her before kidnapping her. Sherry managed to leave a sign in the trunk of Brewer's car. Brewer was arrested and confessed to the crime. He was found guilty and sentenced to death.
