David Thompson on playing for and leaving Liverpool, the injury that ended his career, and his thoughts on Jurgen Klopp’s champions elect

For our latest podcast we’ve picked up the phone to former Liverpool midfielder David Thompson, who tells Paul Wheelock about coming through the club’s youth ranks alongside the likes of Jamie Carragher and Michael Owen, and the pride he felt at going on to make more than 50 appearances for the first team. Thompson also talks the arrival of Gerard Houllier at Anfield and explains his decision and emotions at leaving the club in the summer of 2000. He went on to play his best football under Graeme Souness at Blackburn Rovers until a serious knee eventually led to him retiring early.
