Agent True was assigned to the Kansas City area for the majority of his career. In this episode, Gary and David recount the first organized “sting” operation in the United States. In 1978 The Kansas City Police Special Investigations Unit led by Major Sid Harlow joined the ATF and rented a storefront in the Northeast area of the city. They recruited a well-known professional criminal named Al Murie to take an undercover agent around to bars and clubs and spread the word that they were buying stolen cars, guns, jewelry, or anything else that they could turn for a buck. Al Murie was a local character who was a sprint car driver at Midwest racetracks who supported his racing by stealing record albums. He was well-known by the KC Mafia and during the course of this investigation, he introduced the undercover into the mob’s social club known as The Trap.” David True was the agent who handled all the logistics and liaison with other agencies for this project.     Show notes by Gary Jenkins Venmo me @ganglandwire Click here to “buy me a cup of coffee” To go to the store or make a donation or rent Ballot Theft: Burglary, Murder, Coverup  click here To rent Brothers against Brothers, the documentary, click here.  To rent Gangland Wire, the documentary, click here To buy my Kindle book, Leaving Vegas: The True Story of How FBI Wiretaps Ended Mob Domination of Las Vegas Casinos.
