DawgmanRadio: Breaking Down a Brilliant 36-33 Win by Washington Over Oregon

from Dawgman Radio: A Washington Huskies athletics podcast · host 247Sports, Washington Huskies, Washington football, Washington Huskies athletics, Football, Baseball

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - hash out all their thoughts, and there were a LOT of them, after Washington's 36-33 come-from-behind win over No. 8 Oregon Saturday at Husky Stadium. To start, what an atmosphere! From ESPN's Gameday appearance in Red Square, to the litany of recruits, celebrities, and former Washington players lining the sidelines pregame, the whole environment was a beautiful spectacle, the best of what Washington is all about. And the noise! The UW fans in attendance, led by a student section in their seats well over an hour in advance, were loud and proud all game long, from the first series to the final kick. The guys talk about the opening of the game where it seemed like both high-powered offenses would be stifled a bit by the energy and relentless play of the other teams' defenses. But then the offenses got on track and by halftime it was 22-18 in favor of the home team. What to make of Oregon Head Coach Dan Lanning's decisions to go for it on fourth down twice inside Washington's 10-yard line - once at the end of the first half and the second during the third quarter? Lanning wasn't the only one to go riverboat gambling; Washington Head Coach Kalen DeBoer rolled the dice on his Huskies in the middle of the fourth quarter, only to come up snake eyes inside the Oregon 2-yard line. The guys also talked about the day for both Washington Quarterback Michael Penix Jr and Oregon Quarterback Bo Nix. Both did themselves a ton of credit in the Heisman Trophy race. Penix gutted it out big-time in the fourth quarter, going to the injury tent only to come out and lead the Huskies to two drives - one that eventually gave Washington the lead with 98 seconds left to play. They wrap up the review with their final thoughts on the day, where it stands among the list of top games ever played at Washington, and where the Huskies could see themselves ranked Sunday morning. They also talk about the person who should be the happiest one in the Washington Football offices right now, and here's a hint: it's not Kalen DeBoer and it's not Michael Penix Jr.
