DawgmanRadio: Defense Bounces Back On Day Two Of Spring Football

from Dawgman Radio: A Washington Huskies athletics podcast · host 247Sports, Washington Huskies, Washington football, Washington Huskies athletics, Football, Baseball

Washington wrapped up their second practice of spring ball about nearly two-and-a-half hours on the field. Head coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff have stressed competition and cross-training players at different positions and that held true on Wednesday. The guys from Dawgman -- Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund -- were on hand to watch what took place and they definitely came away with some thoughts on what they saw.First off, they talked about the defensive effort during the second practice. Whereas the receivers seemed to have their way with the secondary on Monday, today it was much more of the defensive backs getting things done.Dominique Hampton, who has moved to safety, started off practice with an interception of Michael Penix Jr. and he should have had another one later in practice. Cornerback Elijah Jackson had probably his best practice as a Husky, challening receivers and making them work hard to get open. Not to be outdone, Mishael Powell had a nice breakup of a pass that should have been caught by Jalen McMillan.Offensively, the player that caught their eyes was freshman tailback Tybo Rogers. After spending much of his senior season of high school on the sidelines due to a shoulder injury, he has come in and looked very impressive in the first two practices. He still has his freshman moments -- he was beaten badly by Edefuan Ulofoshio on a blocking drill and he dropped a couple of passes -- but you can see why he was such a highly-coveted player coming out of Bakersfield High School.
