This may not have been 70-21, but any win is a quality win when you head to Autzen Stadium, and that's exactly what the No. 25 Washington Huskies did Saturday afternoon, defeating the No. 6 Oregon Ducks 37-34. The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - broke down all the main talking points of the game, starting with the decision to take the ball after winning the coin toss. That was the first time Kalen DeBoer had taken the ball after winning the toss, and it proved to be a wise decision, as the Huskies went down and immediately scored.Washington also got a huge slice of luck when Oregon out-tricked themselves, leading to a fumbled snap that Alphonzo Tuputala was able to gather near the UW goal line, eliminating the possibility of points for the Ducks on that key second quarter series.Not many predicted a 13-10 halftime score; in fact most of us predicted a basketball score. But it turned out to be a heavyweight fight instead, especially in the second half. The Ducks marched right down the field and scored on a bomb, which was matched by Washington when they scored. Both teams traded serious haymakers in the third quarter, and that spilled over into the beginning of the fourth, when UW quarterback Michael Penix Jr. made an uncharacteristically bad decision near Oregon's goal line. A forced pass was tipped by Oregon linebacker Noah Sewell and gathered in by defensive back Jeffrey Bassa.That's when Oregon began to slowly steamroll Washington into the Autzen Stadium turf, a 20-play drive designed to have their opponents cry UNCLE! And UW almost did, until safety Alex Cook diagnosed a Bo Nix keeper on third down, stopping him three yards short of a first down.With Nix banged up on the play, Oregon decided to kick a field goal to give them a 7-point lead.After a quick break, the Dawgman guys talk about that sequence, as well as how the Huskies responded with a 3-play, 65-yard scoring drive, punctuated by a 62-yard pass from Penix to Taj Davis, a pass that had to be seen to be believed.Then the guys broke down Oregon's next series, the one that would actually give Washington the ball back after Nix wasn't able to get back in the game.
