DawgmanRadio: Talking Fall Camp Day 2 and Men's Basketball Media Day

from Dawgman Radio: A Washington Huskies athletics podcast · host 247Sports, Washington Huskies, Washington football, Washington Huskies athletics, Football, Baseball

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds and Chris Fetters - pulled some double-duty Thursday on Montlake. Kim handled the men's basketball media day while Chris watched the football team go through their paces on day two of fall camp. To start with, the guys talk about the football practice, which was very similar to Wednesday's day one workout. There was no competition, a heavy focus on fundamentals on both sides of the ball and also a ton of special teams work. They went through some of the standouts first on the offensive side of the ball, including younger players like Adam Mohammed, Dezmen Roebuck, and Raiden Vines-Bright, as well as the full offensive line two-deeps. Then they switched it up and talked about some of the defensive standouts, as well as updates on those players that have been using these first two days to be half-practicing and half-conditioning. Players like Jacob Manu, Zaydrius Rainey-Sale, Denzel Boston, Quentin Moore, Deshawn Lynch, Jayvon Parker, Armon Parker, and more. And finally in the first segment the guys were hit with the awful news that former UW and longtime Pac-10 and Pac-12 Offensive Line Coach Dan Cozzetto passed away. Kim and Chris offered up their best Coz stories during his time on Montlake; he will be sorely missed by those that got a chance to get to know him. Then after a quick break the talk turned to hoops and today's media day, which included a press briefing with UW Head Coach Danny Sprinkle, and also some of the new players like freshman PG JJ Mandaquit and freshman forward Hannes Steinbach, who competed against each other recently in Switzerland for the FIBA World Cup crown, eventually won by the United States over Germany in the final. Kim offered his thoughts on the conversations he had with Sprinkle and the players, as well as what he saw during the open workout period this morning in Hec Ed. A LOT of great insight here on Washington's new team as Kim broke down his thoughts on basically every player he saw, and they are definitely a new team compared to last season.
