DawgmanRadio: The interns guess the season statistics

from Dawgman Radio: A Washington Huskies athletics podcast · host 247Sports, Washington Huskies, Washington football, Washington Huskies athletics, Football, Baseball

The current intern for Dawgman.com, Josh Wodka, joined up with former interns Luke Mounger and Jack McCauley to throw out a host of opinions on how the new-look UW offense and defense will perform in 2022.This podcast was recorded a day before Michael Penix was named the starter, but the interns go right into the quarterback position and whether or not the Huskies starting signal-caller will throw for 3000 yards.Next, they delve into the running back stats. Under Chris Petersen, Washington fans were used to seeing a 1000-yard rusher when Myles Gaskin was the first back in Pac-12 history to run for over a thousand yards in four-straight seasons. And overall, the Huskies have had a 1000-yard rusher 10 out of the last 13 seasons, but not the last two years. Will UW have a 1000-yard rusher in 2022? And will it be just 1-2 backs, or will it be more like the committee approach the Huskies used last season?Continuing, the interns ponder who will lead the team in receptions? Will it be Rome Odunze? Jalen McMillan? Ja'Lynn Polk? Or will it be Giles Jackson? How about Taj Davis or Lonyatta Alexander as dark horse picks? Or will the interns think out of the box and go with a tight end like Devin Culp, Jack Westover, or Quentin Moore? And when it comes to the receivers, who will lead the room in yardage? Here's a hint; there's not a consensus! You'll have to listen to see who disagrees with the group. The guys dig right back into the offensive stats with a rapid fire question: which player will lead the team in receiving touchdowns? This is another stat where the guys definitely have some different thoughts. After a quick break, Luke tests the other interns' knowledge with a couple of questions about sack masters as they move to the defensive side of the ball. Will the Huskies have a player with 10-plus sacks in 2022?Moving to the next level on the defense, who will lead the team in tackles? The interns, not surprisingly, look to the linebackers to dominate this category, but with a twist!Next is the secondary. Who will lead the team in interceptions? Is it a cornerback like Jordan Perryman or Mishael Powell? Or will it be a safety like Alex Cook or Asa Turner? Or what about the guy that has been racking up thefts all fall camp in Davon Banks? After another quick break, the guys go back to some bigger picture team projections. Where in the Pac-12 will the Huskies land when it comes to scoring offense? How about scoring defense? Will they continue to stay near or at the top of scoring defe ...
