But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!"Ecclesiastes 4:9-10"A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity."Proverbs 17:17DevotionalAs God has eternally existed in community— Father, Son, and Spirit—we too are designed to build and maintain community in faith.Godly relationships are a practical blessing and crucial for the spiritual growth of both parties involved.Adversity is inevitable and we are not meant to walk through it alone.Our God is with us and He uplifts and sharpens us through faithful friends.When we surround ourselves with godly companions, we find mutual strength, support, and encouragement as we step forward in faith day by day.Men of GodAs men, we can be prone to self-reliance and self-isolation, thinking we have to handle our problems on our own.These lies stymie our spiritual growth. In reality, we are never alone. We are utterly dependent on our God who works through people to accomplish His will.In His kindness, God gives us brothers who love Him and love us.These verses remind us of the pricelessness of faith-filled friendships and the impact they can have on our lives.We are not called to be passive recipients. Instead, these passages challenge us to be men of God who sharpen, work with, lift up, love, and support our brothers in faith.ApplicationToday, take time to invest in your Christ-centered relationships. Thank God for mutual sharpening. Seek to be a true friend and brother. Be there for others in times of need, even if they weren’t there for you. Be an example as you follow Christ’s example.Let the Lord lead you in seeking mentorship or opportunities to disciple another. Likewise, take the initiative to invest in upbuilding conversations and shared experiences. If you feel isolated, reach out to someone you trust and begin cultivating a godly friendship. We can trust God to sharpen us through fellow men of God.PrayerHeavenly Father,Thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus, the perfect example of a brother and friend.Thank You for committed friends who love well and remain steadfast through adversity.Thank You for the men and women of God You have placed in my life.
