For it is good to sing praises to our God.” The act of praising God is described as pleasant and fitting. The focus then shifts to God’s role in restoring Jerusalem and gathering the exiled Israelites. Verses 10-11 express that God does not delight in human strength or pride but in those who revere Him and trust in His steadfast love. The psalmist calls on the city and its inhabitants to praise the Lord for His protection, peace, and provision. God strengthens the gates, blesses the children within the city, and ensures peace within its borders. The psalmist attributes all these blessings to God’s providence. Verse 14 emphasizes that God provides “the finest of the wheat,” a symbol of abundant provision, ensuring that His people are well-cared for. 4. Praise for God’s Command Over Creation (Verses 15-20): In the final section, the psalmist continues to praise God for His control over the natural world. God’s word is so powerful that it commands snow, frost, and ice to cover the earth, and His command can just as easily melt them. These verses reflect the authority of God’s word over all creation. The psalm ends by highlighting the special revelation of God’s word to Israel: “He declares his word to Jacob, his statutes and rules to Israel.” This privilege sets Israel apart from other nations. The knowledge of God’s law is seen as a blessing in itself, as it provides guidance and a covenant relationship with God.
