DAY 202: Hosea 8–14
from Five Minute Bible Hosted by Kendall Lankford
DAY 202: Hosea 8–14 Hosea brings Israel’s covenant rebellion to its terrible harvest. The nation has sown the wind through idolatry, political manipulation, pride, wealth, and trust in foreign powers, and now it will reap the whirlwind. Assyria cannot save. Egypt cannot save. Kings cannot save. Idols cannot save. The very refuges Israel trusted become instruments of slavery and judgment. Yet Hosea does not end with abandonment. The Lord remembers Israel as His son, recalls teaching him to walk, drawing him with cords of love, and asks, “How can I give you up, O Ephraim?” Exile will come, but God’s covenant purpose will not fail. The final chapter therefore calls Israel to return with specific repentance: Assyria will not save us, horses will not deliver us, and the work of our hands will no longer be called our gods. Then comes the astonishing promise: “I will heal their apostasy, I will love them freely.” Ultimately, these chapters point us to Jesus Christ, the faithful Son who succeeds where Israel failed, the true Vine who bears righteous fruit, the King who gathers the scattered, and the risen Savior who defeats death itself. In Him, the wandering son returns, the adulterous bride is restored, and sinners flourish beneath freely given covenant love.
