Day 288: Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the ancient Christian belief solemnly defined by Pope Pius XII in 1950 that, at the completion of her earthly life, Mary was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.The Assumption is not only about Mary's extraordinary privilege. It points toward the destiny God promises to His people through Jesus Christ and reminds us of our hope in the resurrection of the body.Scripture"For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive."1 Corinthians 15:22Thought to Remember"My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior."Luke 1:46–47Mary never made her life about herself. She magnified God. The Assumption reminds us that humility does not make our lives smaller.
