Day 290: Saint Hyacinth of Poland
from Saints in a Year · host The Road to Damascus with Saul
Today we honor Saint Hyacinth of Poland, one of the earliest Dominicans and a great missionary of Central and Eastern Europe. Received into the Dominican Order during the lifetime of Saint Dominic, Hyacinth traveled enormous distances preaching the Gospel and became known as the Apostle of the North. One of the most beloved traditions surrounding his life tells of Hyacinth escaping an endangered city while carrying the Blessed Sacrament and a heavy statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, an image that has become inseparable from his legacy.Scripture"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations."Matthew 28:19Thought to Remember"Hold onto Christ, stay close to Mary, and keep moving forward."This is not a direct quotation from Saint Hyacinth, but it captures the image his life has given the Church for centuries. When everything around us feels uncertain, we do not need to carry every answer. We need to carry Christ. And we can ask His Mother to walk with us.PrayerSaint Hyacinth of Poland, give us your missionary courage. Help us to remain close to Jesus in the Holy Eucharist and to love His Blessed Mother. When our lives become uncertain, teach us to hold onto Christ and continue forward in faith. Pray for us. Amen. Please like, comment, share, and subscribe to @TravelingtoDamascus as we continue our journey through the lives of the saints, one day at a time.#SaintHyacinth #SaintHyacinthOfPoland #SaintsInAYear #TheRoadToDamascus #Dominican #Catholic #CatholicSaints #Eucharist #VirginMary #Poland
