Day 41: Judges 16-21

His strength returns in his final act, and God grants victory even through his brokenness. But the tone of the book shifts sharply after that. The last chapters are not about foreign enemies. They are about internal collapse.Idolatry spreads. A Levite sets up a private priesthood. Tribal conflict explodes into civil war. The moral confusion is staggering. Over and over the refrain echoes: “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what seemed right to him.” That sentence explains everything.Judges 16–21 shows what happens when God’s people drift from His Word and reject His rule. The issue is not just bad leadership. It’s a rejection of the true King. Without righteous authority, worship corrupts, justice collapses, and community fractures.The book ends without resolution. No heroic speech. No national repentance. Just longing. Longing for a king who will lead in righteousness and restore what is broken.And that longing points us forward. Israel needs more than another judge. We need more than temporary deliverance. We need a true King.
