Day 46: 1 Samuel 16-20

The Lord reminds Samuel that people look at outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. David soon enters Saul’s court as a musician and then rises to national fame when he defeats Goliath with nothing but a sling and trust in the Lord.But David’s success sparks Saul’s jealousy. What begins as celebration turns into pursuit. Saul repeatedly tries to kill David, while David refuses to retaliate. In the middle of the tension, we see one of the Bible’s most beautiful friendships as Jonathan chooses loyalty to David over loyalty to his father’s throne.These chapters show a dramatic contrast between two kings. Saul clings to power out of fear. David waits for God’s timing in faith. One is losing the kingdom.
