Welcome to Day 5 of our 7-day meditation series, Why You Feel Lacking (And How Asteya Changes Everything). This week, we're exploring Asteya, the yogic principle of non-stealing. So far, we've practiced: Day 1 — Release: letting go of the belief that something essential is missing. Day 2 — Rest: softening scarcity through abundance affirmations. Day 3 — Ground: returning to the breath and the present moment. Day 4 — Protect: creating boundaries around your time, energy, and attention. Today, we move into the arc of Nurture. And our focus is the Heart Chakra. Because one of the deepest ways we can steal from ourselves is by withholding love, gratitude, and compassion until we believe we have finally "earned" them. Today's practice invites you to receive what is already here. 🌿 Today's Meditation Technique Heart Chakra Meditation Bring your attention gently to the center of your chest. You may wish to place one or both hands over your heart. Take a slow breath in. And as you exhale, imagine softening the space around your heart. The Heart Chakra, or Anahata, is traditionally associated with love, compassion, connection, and openness. Today, allow the practice to be simple. Breathe in: I receive. Breathe out: I soften. And return to the phrase: I am safe. I am loved. I am enough. ✨ Today's Arc: Nurture Nurturing is different from striving. Striving says: I will feel worthy when… When I achieve more. When I look different. When I am chosen. When I have enough money. When someone finally recognizes me. Nurturing says: I can care for myself now. Asteya asks us to notice when we are stealing from the present by postponing love and worthiness until some future condition is met. Today, practice offering yourself what you so often wait to receive from somewhere else. Today's Reflection Where am I withholding love, appreciation, or compassion from myself? You might also ask: What would change if I believed I was already enough to receive care today? 🕉️ Asteya and Receiving Asteya is usually translated as non-stealing, but the practice also has something important to teach us about receiving. When we live from scarcity, we may become so focused on what is absent that we lose contact with what is present. We overlook love that is already here. Support that is already here. Beauty that is already here. Our own strength that is already here. In this sense, Asteya asks us not to steal from ourselves by refusing to receive the goodness that already exists in our lives. Sometimes enoughness is not created. It is recognized. 🧠 Modern Insight: Gratitude and Attention The mind naturally notices problems and potential threats. That tendency can be useful, but it can also make what is missing feel much larger than what is present. Gratitude practices help redirect attention toward support, connection, and positive experience that might otherwise go unnoticed. This does not mean ignoring difficulty. It means widening the picture. You can acknowledge what hurts and still notice what is helping. You can want change and still recognize what is good. That wider perspective can create a more balanced emotional state and make scarcity feel less absolute. 💫 Today's Affirmation Repeat slowly: I am safe. I am loved. I am enough. I receive what is already here. And return to this week's affirmation: I have enough for this moment. I am enough in this moment. I honor my time, energy, and attention. 📜 Wisdom for Today Asteya teaches that when grasping softens, we become more available to what is already present. Today, instead of asking: What am I missing? Ask: What am I receiving? Love. Support. Breath. Time. Beauty. Connection. Even one sincere moment of receiving can interrupt the story of lack. 💛 Daily Message for Your Heart Dear Friend, You do not have to become more worthy of love. You do not have to accomplish one more thing before you can be gentle with yourself. You do not have to wait until life looks perfect before you let gratitude in. Your heart does not need another reason to open. Today, notice what is already reaching you. A kind word. A quiet moment. A familiar face. A breath that comes without being asked. Let yourself receive it. You may discover that life has been offering more than your scarcity story allowed you to see. With love, Mary 🌙 Sleep Softly Tonight Before bed, place a hand over your heart. Take three slow breaths. With each inhale, silently say: I receive. With each exhale: I soften. Then name three things that supported you today. They do not need to be extraordinary. Let them be enough. Then quietly repeat: I am safe. I am loved. I am enough. I receive the goodness that is already here. Let your heart soften. Let the day be complete. And rest in the quiet truth that you do not have to earn enoughness tonight.
