Thanks so much for listening, be sure to subscribe for more episodes like this, or get in contact with me over on Instagram to suggest a topic we could cover for the next episode, until then! • 2.3 Billion Adults are overweight, 700M Obese • Overweight BMI > 25, Obese BMI > 30 • 3 Million people die each year due to associated risks • http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs311/en/ • Those who genetically store fat would have had a survival advantage when food was scarce or in famine • Modern environment causes a survival disadvantage • If your parents were overweight, you have a 10X increase risk of being obese • Obese families even have overweight pets, so its not genetic • Developed and developing countries have luxury to bombard themselves with “empty calories” – i.e. nutrient deficient high caloric foods • Deficient in vital nutrients, your body screams for more • High caloric foods + decrease activity = dangerous combination • Type 2 Diabetes, Heart Disease, Cancer (breast or colon), Brain strokes, Complications in pregnancy (gestational diabetes), Mental health issues? Poor gut health • Being overweight isn’t caused by how much food you eat • It's mainly caused by WHAT you eat • Incomplete theory that weight gain is caused simply by calories in / calories out • Eating the RIGHT types of food has been shown to be the key to weight loss success, and creating eating habits workable for the rest of your life
