DE ANALYSE: Nederlandse waterwerken kwetsbaar en miljoenen gegevens gelekt bij SoundCloud

Cybercriminaliteit en digitale kwetsbaarheden domineerden het nieuws, waarbij muziekplatform SoundCloud de gegevens van dertig miljoen gebruikers lekte en in Nederland de digitale veiligheid van vitale waterwerken ernstig tekort blijkt te schieten. Naast deze grootschalige incidenten werden ook individuele accounts van bekende personen en leden van een Franse jagersvereniging getroffen. Toezichthouders uitten daarnaast zorgen over Nederlandse gemeenten die intern misbruik van burgergegevens onvoldoende signaleren.Op technisch vlak luiden experts de noodklok over kritieke lekken in veelgebruikte software zoals Citrix, SmarterMail en WinRAR, die actief worden uitgebuit voor spionage en sabotage. Terwijl ransomware-aanvallen op databases onverminderd doorgaan, manifesteren nieuwe dreigingen zich in de vorm van deepfake-fraude via videobellen. Wetshandhavers boekten echter ook resultaten, waaronder de veroordeling van een neppe bankmedewerker en onderzoeken naar criminele handelsplatformen.
