Deadwood, S01E10- Mister Wu

from Spoil Me · host Natasha Kingston

Thank you to Patrick for commissioning this episode, which is going down a road that makes me really sad. I admire the show for facing off with the realities of racism in this era, but damn is it hard to watch. This episode starts with Mister Wu being furious that someone murdered one of his couriers and stole his shipment of opium. He wants recompense, not only in his stolen goods but in the lives of the two men who killed his employee. Unfortunately, because white people are trash, whether Wu's complaint is legitimate or not is irrelevant. Al knows that turning over two white men to an Asian man is going to be seen as a betrayal by the other whites in the camp, and he has to walk a tightrope between what's going to keep the peace with Wu and keep the peace with everyone else. There's a lot else happening in this episode but I'm going to leave it there for now. Thank you all so much for listening, and I will see you again soon with a new episode!
