Dealing with the lows
from The Job · host Jonny Bevan - The Police Burnout Coach
You're not Superman and you have to accept that you will experience lows from time to time. It's normal, because you are human.I was asked during a presentation how I deal with the lows and the answer was that I try and weather them. I want you to realise something, and that is, just because I do this work doesn't mean that it's always easy. I struggle just like you. There is no magic pill out there that can make us happy all of the time and if there was, would you really want it?Would you want to be happy if you found out that someone you loved was ill or that a defendant who you were sure was guilty got off at court? The answer is probably "no", but what do you do when you are faced with those lows. Most people reach for the alcohol of the food to escape the way that they are feeling. Unfortunately, this often creates more negativity that we have to deal with which compounds the issue. When you understand where the negative feelings come from and learn to just feel them you will realise that they are as temporary as the positive ones. When you learn to do this you will stop struggling with life and treat it more like a dance instead of a fight.Have a listen and see what you think.Jonny
