Death and Darkness Destroyed

from 828 Church · host Ron Barnard

We’re so glad you are here! Thanks for checking out Sunday's message!-- SUNDAY'S NOTES --The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light. And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow, a light has shined. Matthew 4:16 NLT Death caused by sin casts a shadow that obstructs our much needed view of the son. Jesus came to overcome death and darkness with life and light! In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. John 1:1-5 NKJVNow when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. Mark 15:33 Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last. Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. - Mark 15:37-38 NKJVPoem - Death to DeathJesus made a way for life with God to be up close and personal now, not just in forever! When the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said, “Truly this Man was the Son of God!” Mark 15:39 NKJVJoseph took the body and wrapped it in a long sheet of clean linen cloth. He placed it in his own new tomb, which had been carved out of the rock. Then he rolled a great stone across the entrance and left. Matthew 27:59-60 NLTPic of tomb here and them a black screenVery early on Sunday morning, just at sunrise, they went to the tomb. On the way they were asking each other, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” But as they arrived, they looked up and saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled aside. Mark 16:2-4 NLTDarkness has a way of making us miss the very miracles we have hoped and believed for. Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint. Matthew 28:1-4 NLT Death and darkness didn’t and still don’t have a chance against Jesus, the creator of life and light! Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you.” Matthew 28:1-7 NLTDon’t mistake deliverance for defeat, miracle for misery, or conviction for condemnation. Mary turned to leave and saw someone standing there. It was Jesus, but she didn’t recognize him. “Dear woman, why are you crying?” Jesus asked her. “Who are you looking for?” She thought he was the gardener. “Sir,” she said, “if you have taken him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will go and get him.”“Mary!” Jesus said. She turned to him and cried out, “Rabboni!” John 20:14-16 NLTMary didn’t know or recognize him until she realized that He recognized and knew her.Why spend your life trapped in a stronghold of death and darkness when Jesus destroyed them both for you! -------------------------------------------------Download the 828 Church app!To view our latest e-newsletter, the Midweek Momentum, and subscribe to our weekly updates, go here! https://linktr.ee/828church
