Deaths in Oregon now outnumber births for the 1st time in history

Oregon passed a surprising milestone last year: more people died in the state than were born, for the first time since we started recording this stuff. Preliminary data from the Oregon Health Authority shows that deaths outnumbered births in 2020 by a bit more than 200. It’s not a huge disparity, but it came sooner than expected. And has some pretty big implications for the state.
