Deathwalker's Guide to Life S4 ep05 Community Day of the Dead Auckland 2026

The annual Community Day of the Dead Ceremony began in the Byron Bay region in 2007. This year’s ceremony, which will be held later this year, will be the 20th and the ceremony’s founder Zenith Virago recently travelled to Aotearoa to offer a training to local deathwalkers who may wish to run a Day of the Dead Ceremony in their own community. In this episode, Kerry Sunderland speaks with three participants at the training: funeral celebrant Kelly Townsend; Sharlene Greer, who describes herself as a life celebrant and weaver of ceremonies; and Illenia Di Nicola – better known as Dinni – a wellbeing practitioner who supports others to focus on connection to the self with creative wellness practices.
