Debs Wrekon: Fire, Scrap and Sculpture

from Roaming Voices Podcast: Remarkable stories told by people who live nomadically. · host Josie Jeffery

Welcome to Roaming voices, a podcast having conversations with people who live in nomadic ways. This is episode 4, and today we hear from Debs Wrekon, a sculptress and member of the Mutoid Waste Company, an anarchistic arts collective founded in the 80's that makes post-apocalyptic pieces out of scrap. Deb's work ranges from large installations like giant love hearts made out of the back of two caravans welded together, to smaller pieces made from household items like spoons and nut crackers, and are a bit of a feminist statement, putting a new spin on things which may be traditionally associated with being a housewife. Her work features at festivals all over the world, including Japan and Italy and of course the UK festivals like Glastonbury, Shindig and Boomtown.
