Decadent Subjects: The Idea of Decadence in Art, Literature, Philosophy, and Culture of the Fin de Siècle in Europe

This excerpt from Decadent Subjects: The Idea of Decadence in Art, Literature, Philosophy examines the concept of decadence in late 19th-century art and literature. The authors analyze how various writers and thinkers, including Nietzsche, Flaubert, Zola, and Huysmans, used the term "decadence," often with contradictory meanings, to explore themes of illness, sexuality, and the relationship between art and nature. The text further investigates how these themes intersect with broader anxieties surrounding gender, societal progress, and the decline of Western civilization. Finally, the authors discuss the role of degeneration theory in shaping the understanding and representation of decadence. You can listen and download our episodes for free on more than 10 different platforms:https://linktr.ee/book_shelterGet the Book now from Amazon:https://www.amazon.com/Decadent-Subjects-Literature-Philosophy-Re-visions-ebook/dp/B002C74NGQ?&linkCode=ll1&tag=cvthunderx-20&linkId=096f8cda81d00ff57ca026c82bf2ce21&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tlProduced by Podcai Studio:https://www.podcaistudio.com/
