December 17, 2023: Our Desire to Share God

In the Gospel reading for the 3rd Sunday of Advent, we are given the story of John the Baptist, as he is “making straight the way of the Lord”. John spends his whole life preparing those around him for the coming of Christ- constantly spreading the joy of God. We are called to do the same, to spread that joy and witness. Father Loomis says that “the greatest witness we will ever give is the homily of our life”. “Paul gives us great advice on a lifestyle of rejoicing”, Father shares. “Always rejoice. Pray without ceasing. In all things give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you all. Extinguish not the spirit. Despise not prophecies. But prove all things; hold fast that which is good. From all appearance of evil refrain yourselves.” (From the second reading) Father gives examples of how we can embody this example to share this joy in our daily lives.
