Decision Time!

We are currently in the midst of another election cycle. Candidates on both sides are painting the other side unfit for public office. But in a few weeks, it will be decision time! We must choose one or the other, and the live with the consequences of our choice. The speaker to the Hebrews has been setting forth his case for the superiority of Jesus Christ as the Great High Priest and the mediator of the New Covenant. Some of his listeners were still worshiping under the old Mosaic covenant bringing their sacrifices to the priests and relying upon keeping the Law for their salvation. They had yet to embrace Jesus Christ as their Messiah-Savior and the New Covenant relationship with God. The preacher concludes his argument by setting forth the two choices they had. It is either Mount Sinai and the fear of the Law, or Mount Zion and the grace of the Gospel. Mount Sinai is associated with fear, trembling, the unapproachable God whereas Mount Zion is associated with celebration, with joy in the presence of God. In painting Mount Zion as the better option the preacher presents seven blessings waiting for us in heaven. He concludes with the invitation, 'Do not refuse Him who is speaking." Listen to God's gracious call for salvation! Because God's judgment is coming! One day this present universe will be shaken and destroyed, but only God's kingdom will remain! It cannot be shaken! The kingdom of heaven is eternal! And it is important that one's name is on the 'roll' or heaven's registry. For only those whose names are recorded in the Lamb's book of life will be admitted to the heavenly kingdom! Our names are added when we believe the gospel! Decision time!
