Declaring to the Next Generation Gen X
from The Gen X Disciple · host Gen X Disciple
The next generation is watching Gen X — not always with obvious attention, but watching. They're trying to determine whether faith is real, whether it holds in actual adult life, whether the testimony of people who've actually walked with God through something costly is credible. We have exactly that testimony. The question is whether we're giving it away or holding it back in the comfortable silence of not making waves.Psalm 71:17–18 gives us a psalmist who is urgently committed to one remaining assignment before he goes: declare what God has done to the people coming after him. The episode unpacks what Gen X knows that the next generation doesn't yet — the testimony of hard marriages held together, careers that collapsed and were rebuilt, prayers prayed for a decade, grief navigated with God's actual presence — and asks honestly why we stay quiet about it. Spoiler: it's usually not humility."Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come." (Psalm 71:17–18, NIV) Today's challenge: write one paragraph of specific testimony — something God actually did in your life — and find one young person to share it with this week.
