Dee-1 DGB Off The Porch Interview

from Dirty Glove Bastard: Off The Porch · host REVOLT

Interview by Haze https://www.instagram.com/mike_tall We recently sat down with New Orleans artist Dee-1 for an exclusive “Off The Porch” interview! During our conversation he discussed growing up around violence as a young kid, his experience while attending LSU, finding out that his friend got killed, getting cut from the basketball during college, bouncing back from the losses that he took during his time of being in school, having a gun pulled to his head & getting robbed, using that experience as a teaching lesson to others, wanting artists to understand their impact on the culture and youth, the slack he’s caught with being a conscious rapper, keeping his faith strong despite of what others have told him, his inspiration for his single “Jay, 50 & Weezy” from his students being influenced by their lifestyle, his single “My Student Got Murdered” being dedicated to the loss of his student, the negative stigma when it comes to men going to therapy, his single “I’m Not Perfect”, people telling him the single would box him but he continued to do it anyways, meeting Louisiana legend Mac through prison ministry, working with Starlito, dedicating his new album Finding Balance to his grandmother, reflecting on time he spent and the lessons that she taught him, his “Not Afraid” tour and much more!  Learn more about your ad choices.
