deep devotions nr. 037 I aikyam | by Deep Devotions
from Deep Devotions Podcast · host Deep Devotions
Aikyam is a Sanskrit word that means oneness, unity, harmony, identity or sameness. It is a key concept in the Upanishads, which are the ancient scriptures of Hindu philosophy. The Upanishads teach that there is no difference between the individual self (Atman) and the universal self (Brahman), and that they are identical in essence. This is called the identity of the individual and the total (jiva isvara aikyam), or the unity of the human soul and the deity. Aikyam can be practiced in everyday life, by being compassionate, kind, and respectful to oneself and others, by being mindful of one’s thoughts, words, and actions, and by being grateful for the gifts of life. Aikyam is not a destination, but a journey, a way of living in harmony with oneself and the universe.
