Deep Dive into All of Grace: An Earnest Word for Those Who Are, by Grace, Seeking Salvation by Charles Spurgeon - By Grace through Faith

from Reformed Thinking · host Edison Wu

Based on the sources and our conversation, salvation is fundamentally by grace through faith.Grace is the ultimate source and power behind salvation. It is described as the "fountain-head" and "divine source of all blessing," stemming from God's boundless love, goodness, pity, compassion, and mercy. Salvation occurs simply "Because God is gracious," not due to any merit in humans. Grace is the "first and last moving cause of salvation" and the "powerful engine" that accomplishes it. The power for salvation lies in the grace of God, not in human faith itself.Faith plays a crucial but secondary role as the means or channel through which this salvation is received. It is likened to an "aqueduct" or "conduit pipe" that conveys the "flood of mercy" from God's grace to the soul. While essential for receiving salvation, faith is "only an important part of the machinery which grace employs". Importantly, faith itself is presented as a "work of God's grace in us," a result of divine drawing by the Father. The weakness of your faith will not destroy you. Even weak faith, like a trembling hand or a thread-like connection, can effectively receive salvation because the power resides entirely in the grace of God, not in the strength of one's faith. It is vital not to make a Christ out of your faith or view it as the independent source of salvation. We are cautioned against focusing so much on faith (the channel) that we forget grace (the fountainhead). The focus should always be on looking unto Jesus and the grace of God revealed in Him, not on contemplating one's own faith.Reformed Theologian GPT: https://chat.openai.com/g/g-XXwzX1gnv-reformed-theologianPatreon: patreon.com/edi_reformed
