Deep Dive into All of Grace: An Earnest Word for Those Who Are, by Grace, Seeking Salvation by Charles Spurgeon - How May Faith Be Illustrated?

from Reformed Thinking · host Edison Wu

Faith is illustrated in numerous ways throughout the sources to make its nature clearer. Analogies are drawn from the human body, such as the eye looking to Jesus, the hand grasping His blessings, and the mouth receiving Christ inwardly for spiritual nourishment. These emphasize the active act of appropriating and receiving Christ.Everyday pursuits of life also demonstrate faith, including a farmer trusting in the harvest cycle, a merchant entrusting his money to a banker for security, and a sailor trusting the buoyancy of the sea while swimming.Faith exists in different degrees. It can be a simple clinging to Christ, like a limpet holding onto a rock, which provides peace and safety even with limited understanding. A higher faith is more intelligent, based on knowing the reason for dependence, much like a blind man trusts his sighted guide because he knows the guide possesses the ability he lacks. Faith can also arise from love, characterized by a sweet, restful confidence in Christ, similar to a child trusting a loving father or a patient trusting a skilled, beloved physician.A crucial aspect is that faith is the root of obedience. Just as trusting a pilot or physician means following their directions, trusting Jesus for salvation involves obeying His commands. A matured faith comes from experience and knowing Christ has been proved faithful. This is likened to a master mariner navigating by instruments without seeing land, bravely believing and steering by the direction of God's Word without needing constant signs or feelings. These illustrations collectively portray faith as an active trust and reliance upon Jesus Christ.Reformed Theologian GPT: https://chat.openai.com/g/g-XXwzX1gnv-reformed-theologianPatreon: patreon.com/edi_reformed
