Deep Dive: Renewable Natural Gas
from What's the Alternative? Hosted by Tyler Herrmann
If you have any feedback or suggestions, please feel free to find me on Twitter @archduketyler This is the first episode of its type, so I would love feedback on whether I hit a good balance of technical and comprehensible. Is this episode too long? Is it too unstructured? Any feedback would be appreciated! I mistakenly said that Volatile Organic Compounds are a Criteria Pollutant under the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). It is not a Criteria Pollutant itself, but it is an Ozone precursor, Ozone being a Criteria Pollutant. References: California Air Resources Board Carbon Intensity pathways (note that zero isn't labeled on the x-axis; RNG is Bio-CNG on this chart). My article about how Landfill Renewable Natural Gas projects work. EPA Landfill Methane basics. Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP) | US EPA Argonne National Labs RNG Project Database. EPA Greenhouse Gas Sources and Sinks report. EPA Methane sources by sector. National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) page, this is a shockingly good page. A study in Colorado found that they could eliminate 1.4 million tons of GHG emissions per year using RNG. American Gas Foundation study regarding RNG technologies, availability, and cost. The report from New York Renews that talks about RNG being bad (as well as other fuels).
