Defense Saves Saints in Wild Opener | New Orleans Saints News

The Saints’ season opener was a rollercoaster: defense dominated, offense stumbled—until the second half. The D, far from being the weak link, swarmed like a pack of hungry wolves, led by breakout star Vernon Broughton, who forced and recovered a fumble while wrecking the Lions’ line. Meanwhile, the offense looked lost early—turnovers, missed throws, no run game—but Chris Olave and Devaughn Vele turned it around with clutch catches and a pivotal pass interference call that sparked a touchdown. It wasn’t pretty, but the defense kept them in it—and gave the offense a chance to find its footing. A promising start, if only one half at a time.
