Del Mar, CA - Ugly Fish Learn Better with Pain

Welcome to Del Mar, California! Del Mar is located in Southern California on the Pacific Ocean and was established as a seaside resort in 1885.  The town's name was inspired by the Bayard Taylor poem "The Fight of Paso Del Mar." Located 20 miles from San Diego, the town was a popular retreat for movie stars during Hollywood's golden era.  The town is home to the Del Mar Racetrack. Built by the Thoroughbred Club in 1938, the track hosts thoroughbred horse races as well as the San Diego County Fair.   Given it's popularity and proximity to San Diego, the town has been called home by a long list of notables including Desi Arnaz, Burt Bacharach, Drew Brees, Tony Hawk, Steve Perry, and Willie Shoemaker.  We hope you enjoy our visit to Del Mar!Small Town News--whose headline is it, anyway? @SmallTownNewsImprov
