Her parents started training for the 2014 Forest Gump run and saw another girl in a wheelchair using gloves to participate in a 5K race. Delaney became fast friends with this girl, Shandy Oliver, and got involved with the running community team called Ainsley's Angels. She started participating in races, including Disney races and found that training significantly impacted her performance. She also shares her perspective on how races can be better for adaptive athletes, including having an adaptive category listed on race registrations and bike escorts for lead athletes to ensure safety. Delaney also discusses the importance of having awards for adaptive athletes in races, as not all races offer them. Finally, she explains that an adaptive athlete is someone who uses a hand cycle, push rim, or other assistive devices to participate in athletic activities.Delaney started Krew of Kindness to give back to her community and help with adaptive recreation. Krew of Kindness has sponsored special needs camps, partnered with local organizations, and organized family-friendly Mardi Gras balls as fundraisers. They have also engaged in service projects such as sewing pillowcases for hospital rooms to make them brighter and cheerier. They have partnered with Distinguished Young Women and created pillowcases with different designs, including Disney characters, for children at the hospital.Delaney ZimlichJenni Zimlich - https://tinyurl.com/yu8eft27Races MentionedForest Gump RunTrick or Trot - https://tinyurl.com/2vwbfnwwDisney Race - https://tinyurl.com/469aw8rbHouston 5k and Marathon - https://tinyurl.com/yc2khwecBattle of Mobile Bay - https://tinyurl.com/3jc8zushSea Turtle Half Marathon - https://tinyurl.com/2p897xpkAzalea Trail Run - https://tinyurl.com/bdfvpny4Senior Bowl 10kShout OutsShandy Oliver - https://tinyurl.com/4kxppt5xAinsley's Angels aka My Team Triumph - https://tinyurl.com/y2jry3etCammie's Ice Cream - https://cammiesolddutch.com/Tatyana McFadden - https://tinyurl.com/2zzpjscyBlue Bell Bombers - https://tinyurl.com/5ba5pt97Melissa Auld - https://tinyurl.com/mdd2ajwfSteve Taylor - https://tinyurl.com/4kkfhzz5Daniel Romanchuk - https://tinyurl.com/4d6jr6u7Keith Evans - https://tinyurl.com/2s39zpztKrew of Kindness - https://tinyurl.com/5b9usbmpChildren's Miracle Network - https://tinyurl.com/yuhjsy22USA Children's and Women's Hospital - https://tinyurl.com/24x3nk72Lake Shore Foundation - https://www.lakeshore.org/Port City Pacers - https://portcitypacers.com/Heather PeppercornBeads of Courage - https://beadsofcourage.org/Ron Barrett - https://tinyurl.com/2p9h8a25Support the showFor more details on Run Your Story happenings, visit https://runyourstory.com/For web development or tech services, visit https://gaillardts.com/Go Run Your Story and take a piece of this story with you!
