Democrats file challenge attempting to keep Tim Michels off GOP primary ballot for governor, why are the Democrats so afraid of Tim?

MADISON, Wis. —The Democratic Party of Wisconsin announced Sunday a challenge has been filed with the Wisconsin Elections Commission in an attempt to keep GOP candidate for governor Tim Michels off the Aug. 9 primary ballot.Ben Wikler, chairman of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, said Michels' campaign errored on a majority of nomination papers by not listing both his voting address and mailing address, which is different in Michels case.By that account, the challenge argues Michels collected 345 valid signatures, which would fall short of the 2,000 needed to appear on the ballot."Election integrity means at its core following the law, and Tim Michels did not follow the laws laid out in Wisconsin statute," Wikler said Sunday.The Michels campaign instantly fired back, calling the attempt "frivolous" and promised to "vigorously defend itself" before a meeting of the Wisconsin Elections Commission Friday.The campaign has until Tuesday evening to respond to the challenge. The Wisconsin Elections Commission will take up challenges during its Friday meeting."The Michels campaign submitted 4,000 signatures, the maximum allowed by law, which were obtained by staff and volunteers from across the state, for review," Patrick McNulty said, Michels' campaign manager. "Tim Michels' home, legal residence, voting address, acceptable mailing address and the address displayed in all online navigational maps, has been the same house in Waukesha County since 2008, despite any petty insider political mudslinging attempting to say otherwise."The issue could end up before the courts, but a resolution would need to be ruled in quickly, with deadlines for printing ballots ahead of the Aug. 9 primary approaching.
