However, the proposal faces long odds and is expected to fail due to widespread Republican opposition in the Senate. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced on December 4, 2025, that Democrats would force a vote the following week on a "clean" three-year extension of the enhanced ACA funds. This proposal aims to maintain the current subsidy levels, which cap premiums for most enrollees and eliminate the income cap for eligibility.
