Deo Kato is Running for Justice: 10km Every Day, 381 Days in a row
from Great British Adventures · host Tom Bryan
Deo Kato shares his story of running 10km every day for 381 days, in a peaceful protest against racial injustice. After the death of George Floyd, Deo wanted to create a protest that was persistent, long lasting and above all, peaceful. Finding inspiration from the Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955, which lasted for 381 days, Deo decided to run 10km every day for that period of time. In this conversation we discuss Deo's journey into running, which started with him overcoming a health problem that once make it incredibly difficult to do any physical activity at all. We also talk about what it takes to do a run streak, how Deo has experienced racism here in the UK, how he has changed his diet to become a better runner, and how his Running for Justice campaign has evolved into something greater than his original idea. Deo also talks about his plans to run from South Africa to London, a journey that will see him cross 16 countries, which he hopes to complete in 381 days, averaging 40km a day.
