Derinkuyu – The Hidden City Beneath the Earth

from Mysteries of History

Derinkuyu is an underground city in Cappadocia, Turkey, that extends down to a depth of approximately 85 meters. It was built to protect its inhabitants from war, persecution, and natural disasters, with enough space to accommodate up to 20,000 people, including livestock. The city contains everything from schools and churches to wine presses, wells, and ventilation shafts. The entrances could be sealed with large rolling stone blocks to keep enemies out. Derinkuyu was discovered by chance in 1963 when a man renovating his house found a secret door in the wall. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
