Derwin James vs Trey McBride | Los Angeles Chargers News

The Chargers’ defense faces a pivotal early-season test against Arizona’s Trey McBride, the league’s most dangerous tight end. With 126 catches, 1,200+ yards, and 11 touchdowns last season, McBride is the key to Arizona’s offense—and Derwin James is their best hope to contain him. James’ rare versatility—covering tight ends, blitzing, playing deep or near the line—makes him indispensable in this matchup. The Chargers don’t need to lock him down every play, but they must make every McBride catch a battle. If James succeeds, he could turn the tide and help the Chargers’ high-octane defense control the game. This matchup defines whether the new-look defense can live up to expectations under first-year coordinator Chris OLeary.
