Er begann seine Karriere im Strabag-Konzern in der Projektentwicklung für Infrastrukturprojekte, bevor er in das Innovationsmanagement wechselte. Dort war er für Trends und Ideenmanagement zuständig, was ihn zum Thema Entrepreneurship führte. Vor drei Jahren wurden die Innovations- und Digitalisierungsaktivitäten des Konzerns zusammengeführt, was ihm die Möglichkeit gab, sich auf das Entrepreneurship-Programm zu konzentrieren. Das Adastra Entrepreneurship Programm ist ein strukturiertes Programm, das darauf abzielt, Geschäftsideen von Mitarbeitern zu fördern und in Startups umzuwandeln. Es beinhaltet eine Qualification Phase, Prototyping und endet mit einem Demo Day. Externe Venture Architects unterstützen die Teams, um Geschwindigkeit und Erfahrung einzubringen. Das Programm ist darauf ausgelegt, Ventures zu kreieren und gleichzeitig die Fähigkeiten der Mitarbeiter zu stärken. Franz Klager betont die Wichtigkeit von Stakeholder-Management und die Herausforderungen, die mit der Integration von Innovationsprogrammen in einen großen Konzern verbunden sind. Er spricht über die Nebeneffekte des Programms, wie die Befähigung der Mitarbeiter und die Validierung von Projekten, die sich als nicht rentabel herausstellen.
