“Designed with Purpose”
from "Prayer Changes Everything" Devotion for Today · host Y.E.S. Jesus Youth Encountering Savior Jesus
Aug 16, 2026 Daily Devotional: “Designed with Purpose”Ephesians 2:10 "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." It’s easy to look in the mirror—or at our daily routines—and feel ordinary, unfinished, or even flawed. We often evaluate our worth based on our accomplishments, our productivity, or how well we measure up to the expectations of others. But Paul turns that human perspective completely upside down. It refers to a masterpiece, a custom work of art, or a carefully crafteddesign. You are not an accident, a mistake, or an assembly-line product. You are God’s handiwork, intentionally created and deeply valued. Notice the sequence here; Who you are comes first. You are created in Christ Jesus. Salvation and identity are gifts of grace, not things you earn. What you do comes second. You were made for good works. Your purpose is anatural outgrowth of your relationship with the Creator. God didn't just design you; He also mapped out meaningful opportunities—"good works"—for you to step into. These aren't necessarily grand, world-shaking events. Often, they are quiet, daily acts of grace: showing kindness to a difficult coworker, forgiving a friend, offering a listening ear, or doing ordinary tasks with extraordinary love. At its core, Ephesians 2:10 is a powerful statement about identity, worth, and divine purpose. It serves as the climax to one of the most famous passages in the New Testament about salvation by grace. It means that you are God'shandiwork, gifted with a new identity, and placed here with a specific, intentional purpose. You don't have to earn your value; you simply live out of the deep value God has already placed in you. Reframe your self-talk today. Whenever a thought of inadequacy pops up today, remind yourself: "I am God's handiwork, designed with intention." Look for the "Prepared" moments. Keep an eye out for one simple, practical opportunity today to serve or encourage someone else—and take it. You are a masterpiece! God takes creative pride in who He made you to be. You don't do good works to become valuable; you do good works because you already are valuable to Him. When you realize you were crafted on purpose for a purpose, your perspective shifts. Today isn't just another day to get through; it's a blank canvas where God invites you to walkin the good things He has already prepared for you.
