Desk of Ladyada - Metro Mini Redux + Some Sensors

from Adafruit Industries · host Adafruit Industries

Hey remember when we were revising all our CP2014 boards for the CP2102N? Next up is the metro mini (https://www.adafruit.com/product/2590) an Atmega328 board that we use often for breadboardy Arduino projects. like other boards that need a respin, we approached it with a "well, while we're here, lets do a gut renovation" - so in addition to swapping the usb serial chip, we also changed the USB to type C, changed some 0805 parts to 0603, and added a STEMMA QT port. one other change is we are having some difficulties getting the 32-TQFN of the '328, but we did snag about 8000 of the 28-TQFN so this 'V2' uses that part for now. it really is a 'design with what you can get' time! We also played with the AGS02MA gas sensor and wrote some drivers for it, and started on the code for our GUVB I2C UV sensor we designed a while back since it's nice and sunny for testing! The Great Search - White LED strand backlight constant current driver (FAN5333 replacement) https://www.digikey.com/short/78btttb0 Another day, another part we can't get! This week we're on the hunt for a replacement for the FAN5333 (https://www.digikey.com/short/bc3jrj8w), a constant-current, 24V boost converer that we use for our TFT displays with big back lights like the 4.3" touchscreen(https://www.adafruit.com/product/1591). These displays often have 6 or 7 white LEDs in series, and sometimes multiple strands of them! That means boosting 3.3V or 5V up to 22VDC with 50 to 100mA of current. That's a lot of power! Let's find a good alternative at Digi-Key so we can keep making display breakouts that folks love - ideally one that is drop-in compatible with the FAN5333 or at least one with minimal design changes required.
